Abdominal Wall Hernia Repair
There are many different types of abdominal wall hernia- but this can include umbilical and incisional hernias.
They are almost always repaired under a general anaesthetic. In some particular cases, an inguinal hernia may be done under local anaesthetic only.
Depending on a few factors- for example the site of your hernia, its size and previous abdominal surgery- it may be repaired via either the open or keyhole approach. Mesh is generally used to decrease recurrence.
Dr Gillespie will discuss with you the specific points regarding your hernia, and the repair and recovery, when consenting for surgery.
